This session will include a brief presentation on the various ways men and women are choosing to live out a monastic commitment outside of traditional monastic structures, as oblates, associates, affiliates, etc. The format of this session will be a presentation followed by a panel of those working with these various forms of monastic life.
9:00 a.m. Father Harry Hagan, OSB, and Dr. Carney Strange, PhD
"Reading the Signs of the Times: The Relevance of the Rule of Saint Benedict for College Students and Student Life Programs"
Father Harry and Dr. Strange have developed an interesting approach for making use of the basic tenets of the Rule of Benedict for student life programs on college and university campuses.
1:45 p.m. "Reading the Signs of the Times: What New Members Seek from Monastic Life; What New Members Hope to Contribute to Monasticism"
The format will be a panel of junior monastics responding to the above two questions.
3:15 p.m. ABA Membership Meeting: Elections, Reports, Award Presentation
8:45 a.m "Reading the Signs of the Times: New Tools for Studying the Rule of St. Benedict"
Mr. Scott Rains will do a presentation on the new RB CD-ROM published by Liturgical Press, a very important tool for monastic men and women. Seeing it in action will be a good experience for all.
