Preamble

To extend our Benedictine way of life and make it accessible to people throughout the world, especially communities in isolated areas and developing countries, we recognize that we can and must use current and rapidly developing technology. This is a contemporary expression of our traditional charism of hospitality. It enables cooperation and communication within and among our houses. It also shows great potential to promote and enhance education, formation, scholarship, ministry, vocations and resource sharing.

Resolution
  1. That the Conference of Prioresses and Abbots appoint a commission to work in collaboration with the Association of Benedictine Colleges and Universities, the American Benedictine Academy, the Monastic Interreligious Dialog, the American Benedictine Formation Conference and AIM USA to investigate, enable and support ways in which our monasteries can be linked by information technology and how this can enhance monastic life.
  2. That the commission write a draft proposal and submit it to the Conferences of Abbots and Prioresses at their next annual meeting in February 1998.
