News and events concerning Oblates

Final Oblation
Tom and Leah Fay Linhares made their Final Oblation during the Sunday morning worship service at Normandale Lutheran Church, ELCA in Edina, MN on 9 November 1997.  Their pastor, Rev. David Holm along with Fr. Allen Tarlton, OSB and Fr. Don Tauscher, OSB participated in the ceremony.  Since The Rule of Benedict antedates most of the divisions in the church it was a joy to participate in this truly ecumenical service.

Oblate Dorithy Freud, sister of Oblate Norbert Zeimes.  d. 5 Nov. 1997
Oblate Deacon Justin O'Connell, Diocese of St. Cloud.  d. 9 Nov. 1997
Oblate Rosa Maria Reisinger.  d. 20 Dec. 1997.  Rosa was the oldest Oblate of St. John's Abbey.  She was the last of the initial group of Oblates who entered under Abbot Alcuin Deutsch.  She made her Final Oblation on 23 March 1927.
