Thanks for your support in the production of this first year of The Oblate newsletter. The proposal for it came from you, the Oblates of Saint John's Abbey, at last year's Oblate Retreat; and we encourage those of you who are coming (and those of you who are not) to give us your response to it. We want to thank the many oblates and members of the monastic community who have contributed articles. We already have some articles in the works for our first issue this September. We encourage you to send articles, or topics you would find of interest - this remains very much the Oblates' newsletter.
We especially want to thank Chris Haddon, OblSB and Keith Homstad, OblSB, who developed and maintain our Web page; Kate Brady, OblSB, who does typing and layout for the print version; and Fr. Allen Tarlton, OSB, who coordinates the project.
Three new Oblate Candidates were received in April, 1998 at St. John's Abbey. They are:
J. Patrick Mullins
Dale Schmidt
John Kustermann
At the April 19th monthly meeting at St. John's Abbey, Shannon Hodges made his final oblation.
We welcome all of these Oblates and Candidates and pray for many fruitful years of association with them.
Abbot Timothy Kelly, OSB met with our oblates in Northfield during his visit to St. Olaf College there April 21. He gave the homily at Morning Prayer in Boe Memorial Chapel on the campus. He was at the College to meet informally with President Mark U. Edwards, several members of the faculty and staff, and friends of the College. During the day he participated in several classes, toured the campus and enjoyed a fine warm Spring day meeting students. The purpose of the meetings was to become better acquainted with one another on a personal level. A coffee and desert reception was held in the evening for him at the home of Keith E. and Torild M. Homstad. Oblates from Northfield and Faribault, as well as friends and neighbors welcomed him.
DON'T FORGET to send in your registration for the Oblate Retreat, July 10-12. If you need a reservation form, please call the Oblate Office. Registration information for Annual Oblate Retreat ...
This will be the last newsletter of this academic year - see you in September!
