Rome, April 21, 2009

Dear Benedictine Friends,

We would like to invite you to the Third Intensive Study of the Holy Rule and the Dialogues at the Casa Santo Spirito, Rome, from January 2 to February 28, 2009. This is not a general spiritual renewal course, nor a study of secondary literature on a certain theme, but it is an in-depth study of the Rule of St. Benedict (RB) and its primary sources.

The participants will be introduced to the tools of exegesis that will enable them to share the tools with others or to continue to study this or any other texts in the way of "lectio divina." The result will be a better preparation for judging the impact on such texts on our contemporary situation.

The program will be conducted at the Generalate of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing.

It is planned that the program will again be offered in 2010.

First week:                      Introduction to RB and Dialogues: Earthing Benedict
Second week:                       and Basic Structure and Spiritual Foundation: RB 1-7
Third week:                     The Praying Community - The Praying Monastic: RB 8-20
Fourth week:                   Common life and its Organization: RB 21-52
Fifth week:                      Monastery and World - Monastery and Mission: ┬áRB 53-57
Sixth week:                     Admission and Formation: RB 58-61
Seventh week                 Authority and Government - The Good Zeal of Monastics: RB 62-73
and Eighth weeks:               and Presentation of the elaborated commentaries

The "Prologue" will be the theme of the weekly reflections on Sundays.
