Tiana

Dom Luigi Tiana OSB, originally from Cabras, Sardinia (ITALY), has been elected as abbot of the monastery of San Pietro di Sorres in Sardinia.  He now leads the island’s only male Benedictine monastery, a point of reference for Christian spirituality in the Sardinian landscape.  Before his election, Dom Luigi most recently served as procurator general of the Sublacense Cassinese Congregation.

The prestigious assignment arrived by surprise. Dom Luigi, 56, returns to the place where his monastic journey began. He entered the monastery of San Pietro di Sorres in 1981, followed by his priestly ordination in 1997.  He then engaged in studies in Biblical theology both in France and in Rome.

In 2007, he served as prior at Subiaco.  He remained there for five years until 2012, when he was transferred to Umbria, to the Abbey of Sant’Eutizio, one of the oldest monastic complexes in Italy, located in the Castoriana Valley of the municipality of Preci.  He stayed there for three years, then moving to Rome to serve as procurator general of the Sublacense Cassinese Congregation.

The Benedictine Confederation congratulates both Abbot Luigi and the community of San Pietro di Sorres, assuring them of a remembrance in our prayers.
